Venezuela: long road to escape the crisis
Since 2017, I've been capturing the profound impact of the Venezuelan refugee and migrant crisis in Arauca, Guajira, Santanderes, Boyaca, and Bogota. Latin America has witnessed increased migratory flows due to armed conflicts in Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Colombia. The ongoing Venezuelan crisis, intensified by economic challenges and international economic blocks, has globally displaced 7,239,953, with 6,095,464 seeking refuge in Latin America and the Caribbean.
This crisis, recognized as one of the world's largest, has garnered attention from humanitarian entities, including UN agencies and NGOs. Amidst this turmoil, the Venezuelan diaspora plays a significant and sometimes overlooked role in supporting their compatriots.
Challenges stemming from economic difficulties and international pressures have forced the displacement of Venezuelans, both internally and externally. Over the past five years, Colombia has emerged as the primary destination for Venezuelan refugees and migrants, with 2,477,588 individuals entering the country as of March 2023.
